Yoni steaming is a sacred, and sensual healing practice that supports this sacred space both energetically, and physically. This relaxing ancient practice brings a slow warmth and increased blood flow to the uterus. It relaxes the muscles in the vaginal canal and wombspace allowing energy to flow and bring balance and healing. The moist, nourishing steam finds its way deep inside and relaxes not only the vulva and outer areas, but the vaginal walls and even up to the cervix. The herbal medicine travels and finds its little molecular way into areas that would otherwise be less simple to relax, taking with it the goodness and healing power of the herbs and botanicals. The plant medicines are absorbed into the bloodstream and circulated into the wombspace where they help to further stimulate healing.

Yoni steaming has now been a part of my fertility self care ritual-arsenal for years. I love doing it at least once per phase of my fertility cycle, except for when I am menstruating.

There are several benefits to the sacred practice of yoni steaming, varying from emotional and spiritual healing to physical healing support. The frequency of yoni-steaming rituals varies from woman to woman; pay attention to your body’s signals and find a pattern that works for you.

PRECAUTIONS AND CONTRAINDICATIONS TO YONI STEAMING
Do not yoni steam if…
You are on your period
You are prone to spontaneous bleeding
You have an internal or external infection
You have an IUD (consult a practitioner)
You are trying to conceive (directly following ovulation if you're trying to get pregnant) or you are pregnant (always best to consult with a practitioner)
Speak with an herbalist or holistic practitioner (someone like myself) if you are working to heal severe hormonal issues or infertility
Do not steam if there is excess heat in the body due to fever, hot flashes, or night sweats (consult a practitioner)
Do not use essential oils, they are too harsh for the vagina
Speak with a midwife or doula about steaming postpartum or after miscarriage, or abortion.
It is not recommended to steam after spray tanning, waxing or laser hair removal. I recommend waiting 4 days after waxing and 2 weeks after laser hair removal.
Please note that piercings will need to be removed to avoid burns.
You should stop your steam if you feel any of the following; generally unwell, light headed, dizzy, nauseous, intense headache, short of breath or if your body tells you so -- trust your instincts.
I do not recommend steaming for longer than 30 minutes. It's best to begin with a short steam, around 10 to 15 minutes in length for the first several times or if you have "short" cycles.

CHOOSING THE BEST HERBS
Perhaps the most important consideration of yoni steaming is the herbs you choose to use.
Before you choose which herbs to use for yoni steaming, connect to your intention. When you know what you want to focus on healing or experiencing on physical and emotional levels, you can better choose which herbs or blends will best serve you and help support your intention. ALWAYS choose organic or wildcrafted herbs. ALWAYS.

Set the space
Before you begin your yoni steam, gather together everything you will need and create a sacred space for yourself.
You may need:
optional Yoga Mat
Journal and Ink Pen
Something to drink, preferably fresh water
Cozy socks, if your feet are prone to being cold

You can simply wrap yourself up in a lightweight sheet, or you can totally steam in the nude on your veranda or porch, if you're able! (I won't tell!)
In the colder months, or if you're prone to being chilled you can use:

You may want to have a towel on hand to dry yourself with afterwards. The steam can collect on your inner thighs and labia, and a light toweling off afterwards can help prevent you from wetting your clothing when you put them back on. A small hand towel can suffice, but you can also choose a plush bath sheet to add to the luxury textures and sensual vibes.
If you have the time, I suggest you light your favorite natural candles (I prefer beeswax or coconut wax.) You can also burn incense or herbs, or choose to diffuse essential oils that help support your intention for your steam, and I always recommend simply choosing what lights you up and what helps you feel the most relaxed.

Play music that feels related to your intention, play my playlist, or choose soothing or sensual background music. Alternatively, you can play instrumental worship music.
Create your space, and set everything out that you're able to. If you can have a special place in your home (perhaps a guest room or the master bedroom, if it's off limits for children) where you're able to keep things set up this is wonderful as all you need to do is go in and heat the water, light the candles and turn the music on. It makes the practice more accessible and easier to do. However, as I remind all of my clients, your practices are for YOU and not you for the practice. This means you can make it as simple or as extravagant as you're able to for your lifestyle.
Start the water in the kettle or the stove to heat, or pour water into the pot on a burner and turn the burner on.
Light your Sage bundle or Palo Santo and cleanse the space.
Light your candles, start your diffuser. Speak a blessing over the space and your time you'll spend steaming.
Open your journal to a fresh page.
Remove your clothing, and continue the rest of the practice naked, if it feels within your practice in this season.
Take a seat somewhere comfortable, or lie down on your yoga mat.
Rub both of your hands together to create energy through friction, and warmth. Gently place your left hand over your heart and your right hand over your wombspace, or wherever you intuitively feel led to touch and place your hands.
Let out a deep sigh.
Now, take a deep breath in through the nose, into the belly. Allow your belly to fully expand with the breath, soft and supple. As you continue
to inhale, allow the breath to fill your ribcage, and your chest until you are full with life force energy and fresh oxygen.
On the exhale, instead of blowing the breath out, simply allow it to escape through your lips as a soft sigh. You can even gently moan or sigh audibly, as if with relief.
Take a few moment to tenderly breathe this way as you connect to the warmth from the palms of your hands. Consciously connect to your heart, and embody gratitude for the moment. You can also take time to meditate and come into heart brain coherence here. Move your conscious awareness to the Wombspace next. Energetically begin to connect to your cervix. Breathe deeply and take your time. Allow anything to arise that needs to be witnessed. Invite her to relax and soften as much as she feels safe to do so. Trust your deep wisdom to guide you, invite Spirit to move within you as you dedicate this time to receiving and softening. Allow your guard to come down, feel the internal walls melting as you surrender to the Divine Masculine who watches over and keeps you. Invoke the Spirit of Wisdom, Sophia, or the Divine Feminine to bring to the surface anything that is ready to be released or cleansed. If you feel led, take time to journal during the steam anything She brings to you. Drop the question into your Wombspace,
"What do I desire?"
Set your desire as your intention for the steam session, and fully connect to your desire through the longing you feel in your body. Next, ask yourself,
"Who would I be if I already had this desire?"
Allow yourself to fully embody that version of you, FEEL her in your bones. Express her through your body and emotions. From this place, give thanks to God as if it already was manifest in your life.
Follow the directions for your Yoni Steam Blend.
Wrap yourself in your sheet, blanket, or kimono.
Slowly and cautiously sit and make yourself comfortable on your Yoni Steaming Sauna Seat making certain it is a safe temperature. The steam should feel comfortably warm, and not overly hot. If the temperature is uncomfortable, wait several minutes and try again. Drape yourself and the stool with a sheet, blanket or kimono like a tent. This way, the steam and moisture is absorbed by your vagina and does not disperse.
Sit on your yoni steaming stool for between 10-15 minutes or as directed by your practitioner, or Yoni Steam Blend.
Allow yourself to feel what arises, as emotions may come up to be released, and you may experience a feeling of liberation and empowerment, or even of mourning as perhaps you shed an old layer or season of life. If you feel guided, take up your journal and journal through the experience or take notes of what arises for you.
After your yoni steam session, you may choose to thank yourself and/or God for this sacred experience. However you choose to close is the right way to close. When you're ready, gently stand up and pat yourself dry with a soft towel, or your Blanket from Yoni Pleasure Palace. Take your time, especially if you feel at all dehydrated. Think of it as a sauna session.
Don't stand too quickly and avoid sudden movements directly following. Drink some fresh water and ensure you are hydrated before continuing with your daily schedule.
Don't forget to turn off your burner and unplug it when finished. You can pour the water and herbs directly into your garden or yard, or you can compost them, or simply empty the herbs into the garbage if you live in the city.
If you feel dizzy at all, sit down and place your head between your legs for a couple of minutes to help bring blood flow back to the brain. Drink lots of water. If you need to, or feel like it, you can lie down afterwards and take time to integrate. You can also shower if you wish, much as you would after a sauna session, especially if you sweated at all during the steam.
I can't stress enough how important it is to be hydrated and stay hydrated through this practice. The water helps flush any toxins away that the body is ready to release.
HOW OFTEN should I steam?
For full benefits of yoni steaming, it is recommended that you steam at least 1-2 times per month on a regular basis. I personally love steaming at least once per phase of my fertility cycle, except for when I am bleeding.
As there are many different uses for yoni steaming, and each woman’s body is different, ensure that you pay attention to the messages and signals your body is sending you. For best practice, consult your practitioner and create a steaming schedule or plan that meets your body's needs and adjust as you are intuitively led to do so.
Menstruation and Yoni Steaming
During menstruation, your womb is cleansing and shedding. It is a time when blood is flowing in the wombspace and the endometrium is being shed. Steaming before your bleed begins can help loosen and soften the lining and thereby support your flow. However, it is best not to steam when you are bleeding. Allow your blood to freely flow and when the bleed has finished you can steam to help gently cleanse your womb energetically of anything potentially "left behind" after the bleed. It is not normal for anything to be left behind, if the body is working as it is designed then everything should be properly cleansed simply through the bleed.
